Coconut Oil and Skin

Deep moisturising, antibacterial support, and collagen-related benefits—traditional island use meets modern skincare.

Coconut Oil and Skin

Until relatively recently, the benefits of coconut oil were mostly known to people living in regions where coconuts grow.

It was like a well-kept secret. People in those regions used it for cooking as well as for skin and hair care—often out of necessity. The remarkable health and longevity associated with island communities that used coconut oil has become widely known.

Coconut oil is an excellent skin moisturiser

It can penetrate skin pores easily and leave little residue, supporting deep, comprehensive moisturising. Some studies on dry skin suggest coconut oil may help increase skin moisture and reduce eczema symptoms. Even if you have oily skin, you may still benefit from hydration—excess sebum production can sometimes be related to insufficient hydration. However, too much sebum can contribute to clogged pores and acne, especially when dry, flaky skin creates keratin plugs in follicles.

Antibacterial and antimicrobial support

The antibacterial properties of coconut oil may help protect the skin from potential pathogens and reduce the risk of bacterial infections that can worsen acne. Its antimicrobial effect is also often mentioned for supporting protection against fungal concerns on the skin.

Coconut oil can help the face look smoother. Collagen—an important structural protein in deeper layers of the skin—helps maintain elasticity and smoothness, but it can be affected by UV exposure, pollution, smoking, and physical injury. Supporting timely repair is important. Coconut oil has been found to penetrate deeper layers, and its triglycerides may help attract protein molecules, supporting repair processes in the collagen layer.

Premature aging is often linked to oxidative stress from UV exposure, environmental pollution, and skin damage caused by harsh chemicals or rough handling. Coconut oil may help reduce the impact of early aging in multiple ways. It can act as a gentle moisturiser that supports the skin without abrasive shedding.
